Pros and cons of using Laravel with Vue js

If you want to build highly creative web applications with powerful tools, Laravel is the right choice. It is open-source, lets you develop high-end websites, and offers an excellent set of syntax. Based on MVC (model-view-controller) and PHP framework, it is user-friendly and can be used on different platforms.

It utilizes the existing functionalities of different frameworks that help in the speedy development of websites. Laravel incorporates the core functionalities of PHP frameworks like CodeIgniter, Yii, and programming languages like Ruby on Rails. This makes it more suitable for web development without wasting time, effort, and cost.

Advantages of Laravel

Due to its rich toolset and features, Laravel has many benefits to its credit. Let’s look at some of the advantages Laravel has to offer-

  • Reusability of existing components or frameworks
  • Easy to learn and use
  • Creates well-structured and realistic websites
  • Boosts the speed of website development
  • It saves time and effort
  • Creates more secure and attack resistant websites

What is vue.js?

Vue.js was developed in 2014 by Evan while working with Google. It is a progressive framework for JavaScript that is used to create user interfaces and single-page applications. Vue focuses on the view layer of an application, and therefore, it is easy to integrate it with other platforms or existing frameworks.

It is not just limited to web applications development. It is also used to develop desktop and mobile apps with the Electron framework. Using JS and HTML extension further accelerated the use of Vue, which was the popular choice for frontend tools. Some of the popular Vue.js clients include Xiaomi, Gitlab, Adobe, Behance, and Alibaba.

Laravel with Vue.js

Both Laravel and VueJS are frameworks, so you might wonder how these two could be used together. Well, they are being used in combination now. We would be highlighting the points below, focussing on why these two languages should be used together.

Pros:

Online resources

There are many online resources like discussion forums, chat sections, websites (along with the official website of Laravel and Vue.js) and plugins, etc. They provide detailed documentation and information regarding the use, installation, and working of these frameworks.

Documentation

Laravel is a good framework since it separates controller, view, and model between HTML developers and designers. This makes fixing bugs and streamlining processes without allotting extra resources. On the other hand, Vue.JS is a framework with extensive documentation. The complete documentation is very simple and easy to implement.

If you know the use of JavaScript in HTML, then you can quickly master Vue.JS. It has many features common to both Angular and Reacts, making it a favorite amongst budding programmers. Vue.JS templates can also be written in HTML or JavaScript files, making it convenient for applications that run directly on browsers.

Ease of use

Vue.JS is easy to work with since it hides a lot of features and presents what is required. Using Vue.JS seems like you are writing a simple JavaScript code. Even if you create a build a typical web application using JavaScript, it still works in VueJS. The same is the case for HTML; it is also valid in Vue.JS. The feature of styling specific parts of your web page is also available. This way, you can apply style changes without affecting the rest of the web page.

Reactive components

Vue. JS assists you in creating full-scale web applications that are capable of handling all frontend tasks. It also offers reusability of components which is excellent for making dynamic applications. Coupling Vue. JS with Laravel is easy; one only needs a few data requests data from your Laravel application.

This is followed by making modifications to the user interface done by exchanging components without reloading the page. After the fusion has taken place, every web developing task will be smooth, fast, and have less load on resources.

Single-page applications

Single-page applications (SPA) have taken the internet world by storm with their invention. Instead of the browser loading the whole new webpage, SPA’s interact with the user dynamically and then rewrite the page with new data. This is an excellent feature that provides a rich web experience eliminating long waits and time wastage. Once your requested data or application gets loaded, it remains in the cache. Whenever the user requests the information, it is done instantly utilizing low bandwidth.

Cons:

It can be complex at times

Vue.js application consists of components that can interact with the user.  The framework is not intelligent enough to check the re-rendering of data that is triggered by the components. Therefore, it often makes mistakes during a reading of data and requires data to be flattened. However, this issue has been dealt with in Vue’s documentation, which guides how to set up reactivity properly.

Language a roadblock

The popularity of Vue across Chinese businesses like Xiaomi and Alibaba generated demand for the framework in the market. Therefore most of the content is in Chinese. Internet restrictions in China further make it difficult to learn and use Angular and React.

That is why Vue.js is preferred more than other variants. Whenever anyone searches for content related to Vue, one will mostly find discussion forums, plugin descriptions, and instructions in the Chinese language. This is not good for English-speaking programmers.

No community support

Within a short duration of time, Vue.js has gained a lot of popularity. Yet, it does not have tremendous community support from budding programmers. In addition to this, the Vue.js developing team is also tiny, which is why lack of support is.

Conclusion

Fusing VueJS with Laravel into one single framework is not easy. It requires skill and expertise to integrate the two and create a dynamic web application. The essential requirement for integration is to get the developing teams of both Laravel and Vue.js together.

The Laravel developers will first build an operational core for your web application, whereas the VueJS developers will create an interactive user interface for your web application. This combination will help you create beautiful and robust web applications.
