Athabasca University (AU) is a Canadian university specializing in online distance education and one of the four comprehensive academic and research universities in Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1970, it was the first Canadian university to specialize in distance education.

Project Background

Being the pioneer in online distance education they have noticed the need for a collaborated social platform for Athabasca to aid smooth communication between the students and teachers and to elevate the customer experience.

Challenges

The platform was in an ideation stage. The large user base and the scalability of the platform to meet the user’s needs at any point in time was a great challenge. Additionally, the user interface needs to be appealing to the new generation.

Solution

We have carefully architectured the solution to be scalable. Modules are made self-sustained to avoid total platform from crashing. We also equipped the platform with a homegrown AI Chatbot which handles the user queries thus giving a better user experience.

Result

The platform had a very positive impact on the users, providing Athabasca with a loyal customer base and better customer service. There was a 25% increase in the total customer base of the university. Easy and efficient customer support from Alise helped to aid increasing customer retention and engagement.
